What do you get when you take years of specialization in the MZR/Duratec motor? A set of cams that delivers. These will increase the mid-range and top end on 2.0 motors, but will particularly shine on the 2.3/2.5 swaps. Couple with a large diameter header or larger intake manifold, they will keep making power even higher up the redline. These are for 6 tooth ring gear motors. That covers the some of the VVT 2.3, all of the VVT 2.0, and all 2.5's. You can use stock valve springs with the stage 1.5, but we recommend stiffer valve springs for prolonged high RPM application. Note: Currently there is a 3-4 week build time, but we should have some in stock if they don't keep selling out. All of our current production cams are fresh blanks from Mazda! Includes lash caps necessary for most applications.
For 95% of people we recommend the stage 1.5 cams. Called stage 1.5 (versus stage 1) due to the increased lift/duration over typical stage 1 cams, but with enough left in reserve so you can use them with the factory valve springs. Other vendors have copied this in rebranding other cams, but this is the ORIGINAL Stage 1.5 cam available for the MX5.
For 5% of people who have the rods/rod bolts strong enough to go past 8000 on a 2.0l or 7500 on a 2.5l, the stage IV cams are for you. These will hold their own versus much more expensive cams, and will allow over 200 WHP on a built 2.0l, and 230+ on a built 2.5.
These cams are RACE PROVEN. We use them on our shop car, with many customers using them on race and street cars throughout the world. These cams utilize new factory blanks, reground for our profile and then re-hardened. We have over a hundred in circulation with zero failures. We do not weld on the cam for maximum reliability. Shims are provided that take into account the cam upgrade, but be prepared to exchange some shims or buckets to get optimal clearance as each motor wears differently.
